Our RTOS µPMOS is the second cornerstone of our embedded solutions. Access to a reliable, compact embedded OS suitable for real-time x86 applications is vital. We decided to get independent of the market and develop an own RTOS, µPMOS.
µPMOS (Micro Protected Mode Operating System) is completely written in assembly language. It occupies less than 128 Kbytes, only, and can directly executed in ROM. This makes the operating system environment extremely reliable. It is designed for 80286 and higher CPUs and exploits the capabilities of Protected Virtual Address Mode of these processors but, can also operate on a 8086 (in a special real mode edition). The very special feature of µPMOS is its object model.
µPMOS is an operating system directly composed of real objects: physical, encapsulated operating entities in memory new drivers, stacks and applications derive from. This design offers supreme reliability and the development of simple, yet powerful software programming tools and runtime environments.
µPMOS itself operates at the very base level of the system and provides an Object Environment (OE) only. It must be complemented by an Application Environment (AE) and a Development Environment (DE). µPMOS ships with both, an Embedded Firmware DE and the ObjectWorkplace AE by default.
Our embedded solutions come with µPMOS preloaded, including the AE and DE above mentioned. There are no licencing or royalty issues involved. Software reference manuals and programming guides will be available also. Refer to the µPMOS x86 Embedded RTOS product page for details.
