Embedded Standards: ESISA Embedded Bus Standard

The ESISA (Extended Stackable ISA) bus is an extended version of the well known ISA bus designed to be stackable for eliminating the need of a backplane. It maintaines compatibility with the ISA bus and introduces new features like 32-bit data and address paths, enhanced bus transfer modes, support for bus mastering devices, realtime application aware bus arbitration protocols, slot virtualization, module auto configuration and much more.

Besides introducing new features, the ESISA standard also completely documents the ISA bus as it is still used in many embedded systems or other bus standards like PC/104 and actually provides an alternative to books describing the ISA bus that are already out of print or otherwise no longer available.

Visit the project's new homepage where the standard will be published for further information.
